Love And Happiness - The Phenomenal Return of Al Green
December 29th, 2008 by tivoliaudiogAl Green rose to celebrity in the early 1970s when he was signed to Willie Mitchell’s influential Memphis record label ‘Hi’ and subsequently released a twine of hits, including “Let’s Stay Together”, “Tired Of Being Alone”, “Love And Happiness” and “Take Me To The River”. His powerful, expressive voice earned him the position as the first great Southern psyche singer, and breathed new life into the psyche genre, gap the door for a new, more than seductive style of psyche music.
At the tallness of his success and popularity in 1974, Aluminum Green was attacked by a former girlfriend Virgin Mary Woodson, who broke into his house and threw a bowl of boiling hot porridge over him as he showered, inflicting 2nd grade Burns on his stomach, weaponry and back. After the assault, Woodson shot herself. Deeply shaken, Green, who had always been a acute church-goer, saw the violent onslaught as a mark from Supreme Being that he should turn to faith and fall in the Ministry.
By 1976, Green had bought his ain Christian church in Memphis and go a fully ordained Curate for the Gospels Tabernacle. Green’s popularity and gross sales both began to slip, and in 1977, he was injured whilst acting on stage, and again interpreted the incident as a message from God. Later that year, Green built his ain personal recording studio, and started to get work of producing his ain records, focusing mainly on Gospel music releases. From 1981 to 1989, Green won eight psyche Gospel populace presentation Grammys, but none of his work from this time period was very well received by the mainstream record-buying public.
It was with great expectancy and exhilaration then that news of Green’s tax return to the R&B sound that had made him celebrated was received. In 2003, Green released ‘I Can’t Stop’ on the wind label, Blue Note. It saw Green collaborating once again with manufacturer Willie R. J. Mitchell as well as legendary psyche guitar player Mabon “Teenie” Hodges, who had co-written many of Green’s ’70s hits. ‘I Can’t Stop’ was a revelation, and a true tax return to form, recalling the glorification years of Memphis soul, with Green wailing, crooning and moaning through twelve new original compositions.
Green also began to tour extensively again and in 2006, he headlined the Indy Wind Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana, an yearly jubilation of wind and psyche music, which have also seen public presentations by BB shot King, Kool & The Gang and Norah Jones. There is no deficit of hotels in Capital Of Indiana available to lawsuit the demands of anyone wishing to go to the festival, which takes topographic point in White Person River State Park in every June.
With his touring, sermon and a follow-up record album owed soon (reportedly featuring an visual aspect from Roots member Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson), it looks Green is determined to dwell up to the statute title of his rejoinder album.

Moving the ITunes library to another computer
December 28th, 2008 by tivoliaudiogI bought a DROBO recently, connected it to my main computer and started ripping disks. I’ve reached the point where I want to transfer the DROBO to my secondary computer which will be the music server. The computers are networked. I still have iTunes loaded on the main computer and I still want to be able to control the library on the DROBO.
I haven’t been able to find the “switch” necessary to tell iTunes to automatically look on the networked computer for the files. Instead I get the “I can’t find the file message”. I am able, through that dialog box to cross the network and locate the file but I sure don’t want to do that for every file I have.
Suggestions?

Robert Pollard, ‘The Crawling Distance’ (Guided by Voices Inc.)
December 27th, 2008 by tivoliaudiog
This solo album by the ridiculously prolific former Guided by Voices leader, with help from instrumental accomplice Todd Tobias, features another ten songs of standard Pollard-isms — vaguely British, Robyn Hitchcock—esque vocals warped by reverb and Echoplex mazes; surrealistic, first-thought-next-thought lyrics; sudden loud crunches of lo-fi guitar; and melodies that soar but never quite achieve the permanence of his best work. One notable change: He’s actually easing up and expanding some songs past the three-and even four-minute mark. Dare we call him a balladeer?

Need help with Media Monkey and Hi-Res Files.
December 26th, 2008 by tivoliaudiogHi everybody. I need help with my newly set up Music Server (wired). I have set up the following configuration. Western Digital 2TB Hardrive (16 bit 44khz wave files) > Sony Vaio Laptop > Cambridge Audio DacMagic > Stereo system. Using Kimber USB Cables to the DacMagic and kimber 1020 interconnects from DacMagic to preamp. Media Monkey (MM) is the player. This setup is working fine with my uncompressed wave files (I will wait for Chris’ review of the DacMagic before I weigh in with my opinion on this unit).
I dediced to try a Hi-Res file and downloaded the 24bit 96khz version of Clark Terry’s “One on One” CD from HD Tracks. You can definitely tell it is a hi-res file when compared to the my 16/44 files. However, the DacMagic shows that it is only outputing 48KHZ. Nevertheless, when I go to the configuration screen of MM (using wave out) it shows it is playing and outputting 24/96. When I switch and configure MM direct sound out nothing changes. I have not been able to get ASIO to work with MM so I don’t know about that. Can anybody tell me what the problem is. Thanks a bunch.

Remote controls
December 25th, 2008 by tivoliaudiogAs I plot my way to Music Server Nirvana I want to place the computer outside the listening room, snake the firewire cable into my DAC and then control the computer wirelessly with some type of remote. Presently, I am thinking iPod Touch. I understand there is a free app which allows you to remotely control iTunes.
Any experience with this combination for a remote or any other suggestions for a remote will be appreciated.
Thanks
